4 Tips to Prevent Frozen Pipes

Jan 3, 2014

Arctic Vortex has become a bit of a buzz word over the past week as people prepare for the record breaking cold that is scheduled to set in on North America next week. Roswell, GA and the surrounding Georgia areas won’t escape the cold, despite our southerly position. With the temperatures quickly dropping, it’s time for you to prepare yourself and prepare your home. Three Brothers has 4 tips on preventing frozen pipes in your Woodstock, GA home.

Frozen Pipe1. Being Prepared

Don’t ignore the warnings. Just because we live below the Mason-Dixon line does not mean that we are exempt from the frigid temps. Get your supplies ready now for battling the cold. The most important thing you can have on hand is a temporary patch kit for busted water pipes that you can use to put on a temporary “band-aid” fix to your pipes until the temperatures rise above the freezing point, or you can call in a professional.

2. Get it Warm, Keep it Warm

Now is not the time to be skimpy on your heating bill. If you have an older home with an un insulated crawl space or attic, increasing the temperature in your home will increase the temperature of the air in these other ambient spaces.

3. Install Extra Insulation

Go to your nearest home center, or call in Three Brother Painting, and install some extra insulation in the most vulnerable spaces in your home. This means in your crawl space, attic, or other places where you may have pipes that aren’t protected like they should be.

4. Install a Heating Cable

There are many types of heating tapes available to keep your pipes from freezing. They can easily be found at your local home supply center but make sure that you follow the directions on the packaging to prevent potential fires.

Three Brothers Painting in Roswell, GA wants your family to stay warm and dry during the upcoming hard freeze. Use our tips to protect your pipes from freezing or give us a call and we’d be happy to give you a hand with these winter home to-dos.
